Coaching Philosophy

I believe that all teachers should feel supported and empowered in their classrooms. My job as an instructional coach is to ensure all of the teachers within my buildings know that they have the opportunity to collaborate in a safe, confidential environment where they are heard, valued and equal. Teachers will be encouraged to set goals for themselves and take risks that help them support their students in different ways.

I believe that coaches should provide a variety of opportunities for teachers to learn with me and with each other. Teachers will be encouraged to open their doors to their colleagues and share ideas and teaching techniques and strategies with each other. Instructional rounds and book clubs will be offered on a regular basis to invite teachers to partake in rich conversations and challenge and grow their knowledge.

I believe that teachers will be encouraged to set goals with each of our meetings and to reflect on their practices to help them grow as educators. I will support teachers in doing this by providing templates for goal setting, lesson planning and reflections. Instruction and support provided to teachers will be similar to the support they provide to their students with the use of scaffolded instruction, coplan/coteach, or sessions dedicated to goal setting, feedback and reflection.

I believe that teachers are my students. I want for them to succeed in the same ways that I would want students in my classroom to succeed. I want to encourage them to be creative, step outside the box of the curriculum and create engaging and memorable learning experiences for their students.By supporting teachers in their classrooms to teach to the best of their abilities, I am also supporting the success of the students in the buildings I am working in.
